River Vardar
separates the valley into two natural morphological parts - eastern and
western part. Obvious differences and contrasts appear in the rock
structure and relief, also the climate, hydrographical network, fertile
soil, flora and fauna...The eastern part of the valley is dry and without
water. Thus it is not populated much. It has the least rainfalls on the
Balkan Peninsula, about 400mm per year. For this reason on this part there
is rare vegetation and reminds you of a semi-desert. Some places even look
like a real stony desert. The western part is fruitful and compared to
eastern it is like an oasis of endless vineyards and orchards. This part
is also rich with forests, minerals, and pastures, mainly on Kozuf, Kozjak
and Vitacevo. |
