- In the
morning when the sun with all its splendour shows from Galicica and fall
on the lake and city. Ohrid is even more beautyful at the evening, when
the thousands lights light by the lake and city and the reflection of
the water is visiable high above Jablanica.
Ohrid
and the lake are two unseperably connected niski and cannot go one
without the other, and together survived through the centuries. During
July and August, Ohrid is the most visited city in the republic because it
opens its heart wide open and almost every house is turned into a hotel so
every visiter can feels like home. But not only that, Ohrid also opens its
national worth the spiritual and material wealth.

Here are
more than twenty churches and monasteries with the monumental St. Sofia,
which in summer is gathering place to well known musicians artists from the
world. The summer stage at the Saraj makes up and inriches cultural life not
only through “Ohrid Musical Summer”, but also through “Balkans Folk
Festival of Folk Songs Dance and Tradition” But Ohrid would not be Ohrid
if it does not offer to the visitors Samuils Fortress, Biljanas Springs,
Monastery St. Naum and many other distinctions.

- The
lake from the other side calls all benevolent passengers to enjoy in the
warm water and the delicious trout. That offers many fish specialities
which have a high rate in the Macedonian national food, for which the
lake is visited by thousands of tourists. Ohrid Lake is at the
south-west part of Macedonia. On east is mountain Galicica and Petrinska,
on west with the mountains Jablanica and Mokra, south with the mountain
Gora. On the north is the valley Ohrid-Struga which extends from the
base of the Mountain Karaorman. The mountains protect the lake well from
cold winds so it never freezes in winter and is on 695m above sea level
and cover 348km2, from which 230km2 belong to
Macedonia and 118km2 to Albania. According the size it is the
largest in Macedonia. North-west of St. Naum the deepest measurements
are 294m. Ohrid Lake belongs to the group of warm lakes. During the
summer the temperature of the water get to 240C. This
temperature is a result of the mediterranean climate that from the
valley of Crni
Drim breaks forth from the Adriatic Sea.
Ohrid Lake recieves water from the lakes: Sateska, Koselska ect. and
also recieves water from the underground wells. From beneath Galicica
spring many wells which on the surface flow into the lake, and some of
them are strong kraski wells. Such is the spring Ostrovo near St.
Naum. The lake flows out at Struga and forms the river Crni Drim. The of
the lake is characterized as clear and transparent and counts for one of
the most transparent in Europe and the World.

The
transparents reaches to 21,5m. Ohrid Lake belongs to one of the oldest
lakes in the World were a lot of endemic organisms and relics old up to 30
milion years live. From the endemic fauna well know is the trout (letnica
and belvica). By the shore of the lake are cities Ohrid and Struga which
present the treasury of cultural wealth. Ohrid Lake is one of the most
beautyful tourist recreative area of Macedonia and the World.
