Park Mavrovo is on the north west part of the country. Covers 73 000
hectare in which are the surrounding of Mavrovo Lake, mountains Bistra,
Korab, Desat, and part of Mountain Sar, and the valley of the River Radika.
As a national park was announced in 1949 because of the natural beauty,
wood comunity???, and the rare animal and plant kinds. In the National
Park Mavrovo is the highest peak in the Republic of Macedonia – Golem
Korab 2 764m high. |

In this park they are the well known and richest grassy areas of the country – mountain suvati which are in abundance on the mountains of this region. |

The climate is mostly mountain, and at the valley of the River Radika is moderate continental. The average middle??year temperature of the air is 7,20C, and the average rain is over 1 000mm per year. The most known river in the National Park Mavrovo is River Radika which spring is at 2 200m on Sar Planina and has the highest spring in the country. Radika has clean water, grandiose canyons, and is rich with trout reason why sport fishermen came to its shores from all around the country. On its valley is the most known monastery St. John Bigorski, who is well known by the iconostasis. |

At the National Park Mavrovo characteristic are three zones: economical , strictly protected and sport-recreative zone. According to these zones the juniper woods at Adzina Reka are under protection, the reservation with oak wood above the river Ribnica, xserotermical?? wood at the surrounding of the monastery St. John Bigorski and the oak and pine wood at more places of the park.
The National Park Mavrovo gives very good conditions for tourism development.
