Dojran Lake is on the south east part of Macedonia. On the north the basin of the lake is enclosed by the mountains Belasica and Boska, on west with the mountains Dub and Kara Balija, east Krusa and on south is opened among the valley of the river Gjolaja towards the Thessalonika Plain. Dojran Lake covers 43,1km2 from which 27,3km2 belong to Macedonia and 15,8km2 to Greece. Dojran Lake is the smallest among the lakes in Macedonia with a maximum depth of 10m.

Dojran Lake is the warmest lake. The high temperature of the air and the water are influanced by the closeness of the Aegean Sea. The water temperature of Dojran Lake goes up to 270C and has transparency of 1m to3,6m. The lake is filled with water through underground wells as well from Golema Reka, Toplec and other rivers. The lake flows through the river Gjolaja that is on the Greek territory. Fishing on the lake is done in a primeval way with the help of birds, and is a unique way od fishing in the world. The birds by their presence meke the fish go into the special bounds of cane called “mandri” from which the fish can not escape. With these charactaristics Dojran Lake is a visited tourist place in the Republic of Macedonia.
