ovci.jpg (23787 bytes)Blood as a secondary product from slaughter of domestic animals for the needs of the meat industry in Macedonia is waste. The treatment of such substances seriously threatens the environment, on the other hand, hundreds of tons of potential protein food is wasted. In average in the Republic of Macedonia, about 1.5 million sheep are slaughtered, 200,000 pigs and 75,000 cows. So, in average, the total quantity of blood residuum??? in Macedonia is about 2,800 tons per year. Due to the fact that proteins partake with 20% in the contents of blood in domestic animals, in average about 600 tons of pure proteins are wasted. Solution: this substance needs to be processed and used as fodder. There are different means of processing this product depending on the product we need. The effects are more fold: large resources used in the maintainance of waste water treatment systems in industrial slaghterhouses are saved, the ground waters are protected from pollution, and additional financial effects is accomplished.
