Lake Ohrid has an area of 357km2 and it is the biggest lake where 146 endemic spieces live amongst which is the famous Ohrid trout. The development near Ohrid Lake is already too much. Certain areas have been destroyed despite of their protected status such as: Katlanovo Mud and Biljana Springs. |

The third largest lake in Macedonia is Dojran Lake (43km2) whose survival is endangered due to the enormous quantity of water used for agricultural needs. The living species, both animals and plants, are completely endangered. The changing of the route of the water and the enormous exploatation of water for agrucultural needs is serously endangering the lake. From 1978 the lake lost about 5 million m3 of water. |
