Second largest lake is Prespa Lake (274 km²) located between the national parks Pelister and Galicica. We have to be very careful in determining how much development we will allow and we must take into consideration the environmental aspects.

Tourism is a very significant economic factor for Prespa Lake. However, this puts too much environmental pressure onto natural resources. The water quality is good, however it is constantly declining. Also the level of the water keeps falling, so that in the last 14 years the level has decreased for 5 metres. The reasons for this have not been determined yet.
