What is DEM? |
| Establishment
and Goal
 The environmental movement of Macedonia was
established in Titov Veles 19th May 1990 on the initiative of the 6 already established
environmental organizations in Macedonia who identified the need for coordination and
mutual performance.
The environmental movement of Macedonia (DEM) is a non-profit
non-governmental non-partisan association of 18 member organizations

As an Association of citizens, the essential and sole purpose
of the Movement is preservation of environment, conservation of natural resoources and
protection of wild life. |

| Goals and
Objectives
- Coordinating the work of the member organizations for the purpose of
environmental protection, conservation of nature and preservation of biodiversity;
- Supporting the dissemination of all relevant environmental
information in all possible directions - social, governmental, and international;
- Advocating for research on application of alternative technologies
and energy;
- Advocating for efficient utilization of energy sources;
- Cooperation with all organizations that advocate for environmental
protection.

| Means of
Action
 To accomplish its
planned activities, the Movement makes use of all media to inform the public, starting
from the educational programmes on radio and television, and all the way to current
affairs political programmes and newspapers with high print runs.
The Movement organizes public events to initiate various
environmental issues, starting from organizing public debates, meetings, round table
discussions, scientific workshops, educational ecco-camps etc.
Pursuant to the Statute of DEM, the member organizations do not use
violent methods in their actions for improvement and protection of all factors that have
an impact on quality of life. The Movement cooperates with all citizens and organizations
on a local, regional and international level. |

| Forms of
Action
The highest decision-making body of
the Movement is the Assembly. The Assembly consist of two regular representatives and one
representative from each member organization. Reports on the performance of the
Coordination Council of DEM are adopted on the Assembly.
The coordination Council of DEM is a collective body of the Assembly
that unites and directs the work of the member organizations. It consists of
representatives of the Assembly and each member organization is equally represented with
one delegate per organization selected by the organization. Members of the Council are: |
