Winter tale
![]()
Snow is the true enjoyment for the admirers of white landscapes, winter walks, skiing, and winter sunbathing. In Macedonia there are snow precipitations from the mid-October and all the way till April. On higher mountains the snow layer is as thick as 4-5 metres, and the average annual duration of the period with probable snow precipitations is up to 200 days. All of these contribute to the development of winter tourism.
Famous winter resorts are: Popova
Shapka at Mount Shara, and Mounts Mavrovo and Pelister. There are also skiing
terrains on Galichica and Ponikva. The remnant of the melting process of the
glaciers after the termination of the glacial period is a glacial relief of
extraordinary beauties, which is especially reflected in the high mountains in
the Western Macedonia.
