Crystal-clear waters

There are also numerous rivers in
Macedonia. The biggest and most famous is the 388 km long Vardar river (in the
Republic of Macedonia 300 km). Its headwaters are near the village of Vrutok in
the southeastern slopes of Mount Shara, and it flows into the Bay of
Thessaloniki where it forms a waste delta. Particularly interesting are its
gorges of: Demir Kapija, Veles, Taor, and Derven. In the Vardar also the largest
Macedonian rivers flow: Crna Reka, Bregalnica, Treska, Pchinja, Lepenec, and
Babuna.
The outline of the Macedonian rivers would be incomplete without a mention of the Radika river, the right tributary of the Crn Drim river. This river strikes with its clear mountain waters, numerous rapids, remarkable quantities of trout, and with its deep gorge - canyon valley. With their beauty especially mesmerizing are: the Barich gorge, the surroundings of the Monastery of St. Jovan Bigorski and of the village of Strezimir. Magnificent ambience is also rested within the gorges of the Radika's tributaries: Adzina, Mavrovska, Galichka, Mala Reka, Ubav Potok, Stirovica, Ribnica, and Rostuska Reka.
