Ohrid - sun, water, beauty

    Lake Ohrid is the largest and most famous Macedonian lake. It's altitude is 695 metres above sea level, it covers an area of 348 square kilometres, and is 286 metres deep. It is surrounded by Mounts Galichica, Mokra Planina, and Jablanica. Much of its water comes from numerous springs, the most famous being Biljana's Springs near Ohrid and the springs near St. Naum. According to the estimates, the Lake is one of the oldest in the world, and came into being about 2 to 3 million years ago.

    It has preserved life forms that are true live fossils. Owing to these reasons, the Lake has been included in the listed natural heritage sites of the UNESCO. The Lake is reach in both flora and fauna: there are the renowned Ohrid trout, eel, etc. Also the Ohrid Pearl is quite famous. The Lake's shore houses the cities of Ohrid and Struga.

   Ohrid is the largest Macedonian tourist resort, with its immense number of churches, museums, old town's architecture, Samuel's Fortress, etc. Struga is adorned by magnificent architecture and particularly beautiful river Drim that flows out of Lake Ohrid.
