The son of Volkasin, Marko, kept
the title of a king but recognized the Turkish rule, paid taxes and
gave military assistance to the Turks. The Drags brothers also recognized
the Turkish rule whereas Vuk Brankovik expanded to Skopje. Andreja Gropa
established himself in Ohrid with the title zupan. In 1383 the Turks
occupied Ser, in 1385 Stip, Veles, Prilep and Bitola and in 1395 Skopje.
In 1395 King Marko and Constantine who fought on the side of the Turks
against the Vlachs were killed at the Battle of Rovine. Hence commenced
the five-century Turkish Ottoman rule.
