In 1911 a war broke out between the Italy and Turkey and the Resistance
alliance was formed by Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and Montenegro. After
a formal ultimatum given to Turkey for reform in Macedonia under unacceptable
conditions on October 18, 1912 Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece declared
war on Turkey (the first Balkan war) and Macedonia was transformed into
a battlefield. On December 4, 1912 the London treaty was signed where
Albania became a soveriegn country and Macedonia was divided. In 1913
Serbia requested from Bulgaria part of Macedonia's territory which lead
to the Aegan sea in concordance with Greece. Romania requested from
Bulgaria part of southern Dobrudza. Russia was the diplomatic negotiator
of these territorial negotiations but on June 29, 1913 Bulgaria began
the second Balkan war. There was bloodthirsty fighting on the front
of Kriva Palanka to Seres where the determining battles were fought
at the rivers Bregalnica and Zletovska Reka. The Bulgarian army fought
on all four sides against Serbia, Greece, Romania ad Turkey and survived
through a disastrous defeat. On August 10, 1013 in Buchurest the Buchurest
treaty was signed in which Greece was given Aegean Macedonia and Solun,
Bulgaria maintained control over the Pirin part and Strumica as for
Serbia - Vardar Macedonia. Macedonia
was totally devastated not only her economy but in her loss of national
unity. In 1914 the First World War began and the Macedonian opulationwas
in a position where they had serve in armies which fought against each
other and the Macedonian territory was engaged in military attacks.
The Macedonian Front was formed consisting of Serbian - English - French
- Russian Antanta against the Bulgarian - German - Austrian - Hungarian
- Turkish Central Allegiance which ended with the victor of the Antanta
in 1918 after which Macedonia fell under the rule of Serbia and Greece.
In 1919 the Versaille Treaty was signed where Macedonia was divided
into three: Vardar Macedonia became a part of the Kingdom of Serbs,
Croats and Slovenes, Aegean Macedonia as part of Greece and Pirian Macedonia
part of Bulgaria. Military groups financed by the Bulgarian office were
active in Macedonia, whereas in western Macedonia the Albanian rabbles
- kachaci plundered away.
