St. Nicholas |
92 x 63 cm. Tempera. Plaster ground on board. Revetment of gilded silver. From the church of St. Nicholas Geracomia, Ohrid. In the same church today. Condition: Well preserved. The vestments of St. Nicholas repainted in 19th century by the famous icon-painter Dico. Iconography: St. Nicholas portrayed half-length. He is giving a blessing with his right hand and in his left holds a large open book. Only the head of the saint from the original painting has not been repainted. |
| The revetment was made to fit the icon. It is very similar to that of the Mother of God with Christ from the church of the Mother of God Peribleptos. The ornamentation of the halo incorporates four medallions with the personification of the evangelists. On the frame there are six figures, of which the upper two are Jesus Christ, giving a gospel to St. Nicholas, and the Mother of God with an mophorion in her hands. The other four are prophets. Conservation: Conserved in the laboratory of IPCM - Skopje.
