Mother of God |
13th century 22.5 x 15 cm. Tempera. Plaster ground on board. From the church of St. Sophia, Ohrid. Today - Icon Gallery, Ohrid. Condition: The board is eaten by worms and broken in some places, especially at the corners and along the frame. The plaster ground, together with the layer of paint, flaked off in few places from the maphorion of the Mother of God.

| Iconography: Mother of God is shown in half length, facing half
left with gently bowed head and arms raised towards Christ. She is dressed in a dark-red
maphorion with gold stars on her breast. On her head, under the maphorion she has a
dark-green Greek cap. The edges of the maphorion are bordered with a gold stripe.
Background, gold. On the golden base of the halo, engraved tendril ornamentation. Conservation: Cleaned and conserved.
