Jesus Christ the Almighty |
158 x 125 cm. Tempera. Plaster ground on board. Revetment of gilded silver. Previously, probably on the iconostasis of the church of St. Sophia in Ohrid. Discovered in the church of the Mother of God Peribleptos (St. Clement’s), Ohrid. Today - Icon Gallery, Ohrid. |
| Condition: The icon is cracked vertically in two places. Many smaller areas of damage on the chin garment covering the right arm and the chest. Some plates of the revetment are lost. Iconography: Jesus Christ is shown in half-length. He is giving a blessing with His right hand and His left holds a large open book with Greek letters. He is dressed in a blue hiton and red himation. The plates have been produced in a series because some of the scenes connected with the life of Christ are repeated several times. There are plates on the icon with Greek inscriptions mentioning Sebastocrator Kyrios Isaac Doucas Kersak. However, it is our opinion that they where originally on some other icon. Conservation: Cleaned and conserved, but the layer of repainting done probably in the 19th century not removed.
