The Annunciation |
(On the reverse, "Mother of God the Soul Saviour") 14 century. 94.5 x 80.4 cm. Tempera. Plaster ground on board. From the Church of the Mother of God Peribleptos (St. Clement’s), Ohrid. Today - at the Icon Gallery, Ohrid. Condition: Very well preserved. Iconography: Mother of God seated on a throne without a back, with a rich decorated baldaqin. Archangel Gabriel is descending on her right. The background of the icon is of gold Over the Mother of God falls a light. In the background is shown a requisite architecture. In the foreground, a small vessel. Mother of God is dressed in dark green hiton and dark red maphorion. The inscriptions have been preserved. |
