(Together with the icon "Archangel Gabriel", make up the composition "Annunciation".)

11th century. Revetment between 1108 - 1120.

111.5 x 67 cm

Tempera on board.

Revetment of gilded silver.

From the church Mother of God Peribleptos (St. Clement’s), Ohrid.

Today - at the Icon Gallery, Ohrid.

Condition: Visible damage to the layer of paint in several places on the face of the Mother of God and her left hand. The hiton and maphorion are partly repainted.

One of the five medallions on the revetment on the upper part of the frame is missing. On the lower part of the frame, which also undoubtedly had five medallions, only one remains and a quarter of another has been preserved. A piece of a revetment from another icon, with ornamentation which differs from that of the rest of the revetments, has been affixed to the same lower part. The original metal halo lost or removed because of damage was replaced with a new one in 19th century.

Iconography: The basis of the synopsis is found the text of Luke the Evangelist. (See interpretation of the icon "Archangel Gabriel".).

Origin: Same as the icon "Archangel Gabriel".

Conservation: In the conservation, done in the laboratory of the IPCM, Skopje soot and dust was lightly cleaned. However, the layer of paint from the later repainting of the Mother of God’s hiton and maphorion was not removed.
