The Folk Costume of the Ovche Plain The Folk Costume of the Ovche Plain resembles the costume of Babuna with specific distinctions in the design and ornamentation of the specific clothing items. The shirts of the female costume are made of a white cotton fabric with many stripped patterns popularly called kenari and the sleeves have many laces called oyi. The vest ends in the form of a bell and is lined with a thick fabric with wide threads and it scarcely ruffled. Laces oyi are put on the entire costume. A small ornamented belt dzunitsa and an apron skutina - peshkir with woven stripes and small geometrical patterns. The clothing items of the male costume are made of a thin kenarlia with a short sleeveless vest, folded at the breast, a woolen sash and a male apron skutina vuta with black and white stripes and petite geometrical patterns on the lower end. There are also numerous pieces of cloth worn on the sash, over the shoulders and on the head. The special shepherd cape is a kutnesh made of a light gray fabric decorated with many black braids and a kozhuv made of sheepskin. These two waterproof clothing items that accompany the shepherd everywhere also serve as a mat and/or cover for sleeping out in the open. Hence, the popular saying: "A shepherd without a kutnesh and kozhuv is like a shepherd without a home". |
