Cave church St. Stephen - Armour (Sv. Stefan - Pancir)
| About five kilometers
south of Ohrid, on the site Pancir, a small cave church
dedicated to the first Christian Martyr - Archdeacon
Stefan is located. A natural cave has been used for the church. On the south side a wall made of crushed stone has been erected. Apart from the church, further in history, shelters were also built. This small cave church with semi-circular ceiling, situated in the cavernous rocks existed earlier in history, in the time when hermits dwelled on the shores of Lake Ohrid. The fresco decoration however, was instated in the 13th century when art activities were blooming. |
