Cave church "Saint Erasmus" - "Sveti Erazmo"
| This church,
dedicated to Archbishop Erazmo, is located about three
kilometers from Ohrid, in the rocks, to the right from
the Ohrid-Struga road. This cave church, with its long history has been reconstructed several times. The image of the Byzantine emperor Andronikus II - Paleologus, that dates from the 18th century is well preserved. The solitude of this cave church in this part of the Lake Ohrid shore, the constriction of the utilized area, and some other elements indicate that special hermits, or a very small monk's order used to live in the modest shelters near the cave church. |
