Kiro Gligorov (1917 - ), a politician and a statesman, participant in the National Liberation War, member of the Steering Committee for summoning ASNOM and a delegate to ASNOM and AVNOJ. After the War he executed functions of high ranks in Macedonia and Yugoslavia. He is the first President of the Republic of Macedonia elected in January 1991 and in October 1994. Gligorov is the creator of the policy and the main protagonist in the creation and affirmation of sovereign, independent and internationally recognized Macedonia. On the international plan and within the frame of the Republic of Macedonia, Gligorov is affirmed with his policy for peaceful dialogue and collaboration with the neighbouring countries, for the access of Macedonia into the European and World associations including the multilateral prosperity on the base of the inter-ethnical tolerance and coexistence.
